Teamwork Motorsport ends the year on the podium in Zhuhai

OCTOBER 24 2023 – RACE REPORT ZHUHAI

Teamwork Motorsport ended the season on a high in the final round of the Geely Super Cup Pro series at the Zhuhai International Circuit, with Cherry CHEUNG and Ronald HUI finishing the final race of the season in second place, while LIU Xiaohua also secured second in the drivers’ standings, and Teamwork Motorsport were second in the teams’ standings.

Race 10

The first race set the scene for the rest of the weekend, with LIU finishing seventh, and HUI ninth on his season’s debut with the team, taking over the spot usually driven by Samuel HSIEH.

It was a critical result, with both cars scoring nominal points, LIU keeping himself well in the championship battle, and the two top ten finishes for both cars kept Teamwork Motorsport in the frame for the teams’ title.

Race 11

With the top ten reversed for the second race of the weekend, this put CHEUNG on the front row for the second race as she took over the #10. CHEUNG made an attempt to take the lead into the first corner, but was forced wide and dropped to third. In a frenetic first few laps, CHEUNG slowly dropped down the order, also letting her team-mate past in a bid to support LIU’s drivers’ title aspirations.

LIU crossed the line fifth, while CHEUNG put the #10 car ninth again, which set-up everything for an exciting finale.

Race 12

The final race was a good news and bad news story for the team. Sadly the team’s bid for the drivers’ and teams’ titles was ended when LIU was caught up in an accident at the start of the race, when a rival’s car was spun right in front of him.

LIU ploughed into the spinning car and into retirement, leaving the team’s focus on the #10 car of HUI and CHEUNG.

In the relay race, HUI handed over to CHEUNG, who then powered on to score a second-place finish, the best result for the #10 car all season.

At the end of a very close season in the Geely Group Super Cup, Teamwork Motorsport has risen to the challenge and run a pair of incredibly strong programmes with a single-driver entry in rising star and Geely Group Motorsport development driver LIU Xiaohua in the #21 car, and a customer entry of skilled and long-term members of the Teamwork Motorsport family in the #10 car.

LIU finished second in the drivers’ championship, just 6.5 points off the lead at the end of a close season.

It was even closer in the teams’ championship, with Teamwork Motorsport missing out by just half a point – an incredibly close gap.

With the Geely Super Cup Pro series over, the team now focuses its attention on the last two rounds of the TCR China championship, as well as its programme at the 70th running of the world-famous Macau Grand Prix in November.
