Teamwork Motorsport announces first Lynk & Co 03 TCR customer programme in Asia

Chinese squad Teamwork Motorsport will be the first customer of Geely Group Motorsport in Asia with three Lynk & Co 03 TCRs and the team is currently evaluating a TCR China and TCR Asia programme.

“The all-round performance that Lynk & Co 03 TCR shown to the world last year in the WTCR was incredible and made our choice easy. We are especially glad to start this customer racing programme with a Chinese brand as a Chinese team,” Teamwork Motorsport Team Principal Paul Hui said.

“We’re excited to work with Geely Group Motorsport and Lynk & Co not only on the circuits, but also enjoy the huge support from the Chinese fans. We are looking forward to a really strong season.”

The cars have been delivered to Teamwork’s Guangdong headquarters, with final preparations ahead of testing currently underway.

“We are monitoring the coronavirus pandemic closely and our priority is obviously the wellbeing of everyone involved in the project,” said Paul Hui.

“We have a close dialogue with organisers of the championships mentioned and we are ready for when the circumstances are there to race again.”

The Lynk & Co 03 TCR made its racing debut in the 2019 FIA World Touring Car Cup with Swedish outfit Cyan Racing, the 2017, 2018 and 2019 World Champions of touring car racing. The team claimed the World Title for teams in the debut season with the car, delivering the first-ever motorsport World Title for a Chinese automotive manufacturer.

Teamwork Motorsport made their first racing debut in the 2016 TCR Asia season. The team quickly showed that they were regular podium contenders in TCR Asia/China/UK, winning both the team and driver titles of the 2018 TCR China season.

Their experience and knowledge of TCR also extend to endurance races. In 2019 the team competed in the 24 hours of Dubai and claimed a third place in the Pro-Am class of the first ever TCR-only endurance race, the Spa 500.

“Teamwork Motorsport have shown that they are one of the best touring car teams in the China/Asia region and we are glad that they have chosen the Lynk & Co 03 TCR as our first customer in Asia,” said Ron Hartvelt, Customer Racing Director of Geely Group Motorsport.

“With their experience in regional TCR championships and endurance races, we are confident that they can continue the successful track record and showcase the performance capability of the Lynk & Co 03.”

TCR China is set to feature six race weekends in 2020, including Shanghai, Ningbo, Zhejiang, Zhuzhou and Ordos. TCR Asia will, like last year, share two outings with TCR China, while the other three will take place in Malaysia and Thailand.
