Teamwork Motorsport enjoyed some hard racing and a brilliant podium finish for LIU Xiaohua, with some great fights in very difficult conditions on Saturday in the rain for the #10 car as well, leaving Teamwork Motorsport and LIU well-placed in the drivers’ and teams’ championships.
Race 8
LIU qualified in seventh place for the first race of the weekend in his #21 entry, with the #10 of Samuel HSIEH and Carson TANG starting tenth.
The circuit was wet at the start and the rain became even heavier in the first laps, with the challenge almost being just keeping the cars on track.
Both cars had excellent starts, and LIU was up to fifth by the end of the first lap, and he quickly moved up to fourth on lap two.
There was some shuffling as the conditions got worse. LIU was in a battle group which was joined by HSIEH who was up to seventh before the pit stop sequence began.
Soon after the pit stops were completed, the safety car was called while a spun car needed to be collected before the race was then red-flagged.
After the restart, LIU clung on to fourth to the finish, while TANG, now aboard the #10, powered through to finish in fifth position.
Race 9
The second race was a quieter affair than the first race, held in much drier conditions.
Cherry CHEUNG now took over driving duties aboard the #10 car.
At the start of the race, LIU and CHEUNG were running fourth and fifth in close formation, but the #10 car was soon muscled down the order and found itself at the back of the battle pack for much of the rest of the race.
LIU was able to get up to third before the end of lap four, and from there he cruised to finish in the final podium spot, claiming an excellent podium result for the team, while the #10 car would finish the race in 13th, with TANG taking over from CHEUNG for the final stint.
It was a very strong weekend for Teamwork Motorsport in difficult conditions, and the team is now in a very strong position in both the drivers’ and teams’ championships.
LIU Xiaohua is second in the drivers’ standings, just 2.5 points behind the series leader, while Teamwork Motorsport is also second in the teams’ classification, only 3.5 points adrift.
The final round of the series takes place at the Zhuhai International Circuit on October 21-22.
