LIU Xiaohua Secures Podium Finish as Teamwork Motorsport Complete the Season High at Zhuzhou

Teamwork Motorsport drivers delivered a solid performance though out the highly competitive race weekend at Zhuzhou International Circuit as the Geely Super Cup closed its curtain of 2024 season. LIU Xiaohua (Car No.12) earned a podium for the team, while Martin FOO (Car No.11) continued to exude his exceptional competitiveness. Thomas WONG (Car No.25), competing as an independent driver, also ascended to the podium.

Qualifying

Martin FOO persisted in refining his performance throughout the fiercely contested qualifying session, securing 10th place for his No.11 machine with an exceptional personal best time of 2:01.662. Thomas WONG acquitted himself admirably during the qualifying, the young talent would start the race from 11th on the grid. LIU Xiaohua marked his comeback to the series this weekend, the 2023 season runner-up concluding his qualifying endeavors in 13th position.

Race 16

Piloting the No.25 car, Thomas WONG exhibited a breathtaking first lap performance, ascending through the competitors to secure the 5th position. WONG’s robust racing pace diminished the distance between him and the frontrunners. Then the young driver executed a dazzling overtaking maneuver, ultimately crossing the finish line in 4th place. After a post-race penalty, WONG’s position was improved to 3rd in the final classification, securing a prestigious podium finish.

Martin FOO made a decent launch at the start of the race, placing himself up to 4th position after the first lap. Then FOO fiercely battled against competitors around him. Sadly though, FOO’s car was damaged when fighting for the podium. FOO made all his efforts to keep a steady long-distance run pace and took the chequered flag in 6th position.

For LIU Xiaohua, Race 16 posed a formidable obstacle. Starting from the 13th position, the car No.12 tried to make progress from the start. Nevertheless, a stalled car drastically hindered LIU’s initial acceleration, resulting in a collision and a subsequent demotion to the back of the grid. Nevertheless, LIU persevered with utmost effort to return into the competition, ultimately finish the race in the 12th position.

Race 17

LIU made a dazzling start in Race 17, gaining two positions in the initial ten minutes. The competition at the forefront was fiercely contested and the safety car was brought out for twice during the race. Amidst the chaos, LIU navigated through the incidents, keeping his car in one piece and advancing into contention for points. In the end, LIU guided the car to a 5th-place finish, accruing invaluable championship points for Teamwork Motorsport.

From the 5th position on the grid, FOO did an fancy start to the race, swiftly moving up to the 2nd place. However, Car No.11 came under relentless attack from the drivers behind, yet FOO’s exceptional defensive skills allowed him stayed in top 5. Unfortunately, FOO was involved in an accident at Turn 6, resulting in a significant loss of positions. Despite these adversities, FOO refused to relinquish. He persevered relentlessly and finish the race in 9th place.

WONG’s start was well and stayed in 7th place with steady race pace. But the technical issue led by the accident in the race made WONG had no choice but to retire the car.

Race 18

The endurance round as well as the season finale kicked off on Sunday morning amidst heightened anticipation. Each driver was obligated to in a 45-minute endurance race, punctuated by a mandatory pit stop.

As the green flag waved, all the drivers surged forth from the starting grid with fervor. LIU Xiaohua start the race with a steady pace that allowed him to maintain a steadfast 5th position amidst the intense competition. Then a delayed pit stop strategy enabled the car No.12 to secure yet another position. In the closing stage, LIU surged ahead into the top 3, crossing the finish line in 3rd place, marking the first podium triumph for Teamwork Motorsport since the Chengdu event.

Martin FOO’s race start was auspicious, as he ascended to 6th position, relentlessly seeking opportunities to challenge the frontrunners. Subsequent to the mandatory pit stop, FOO’s No.11 car consolidated its position in 6th. Multiple safety car periods transformed the endurance race into a five-minute sprint. Despite being given a five-second penalty, FOO executed an extraordinary performance in the final phase, overcoming the hindrance of the penalty and securing a well-earned 8th place finish.

For Thomas WONG, race 18 was beset with adversity. A mechanical issue limited his chance to fight for the points. Car No.25 eventually crossed the finish line in 13th place.

The Geely Super Cup 2024 season was a roller-coaster for Teamwork Motorsport as the team had stood on the top of the podium and also went through numbers of incidents and retirements. Despite the ups and downs, the team’s unwavering spirit of never giving up is truly admirable.
