On September 13, the fourth round of the TCR China Championship concluded at the Shanghai International Circuit. Navigating a rapidly changing track, Teamwork Motorsport’s Li Guanghua, behind the wheel of the No. 66 Lynk & Co 03+ TCR, delivered back-to-back overall podium finishes, wrapping up the Shanghai round with one runner-up position and one third-place finish. Across both races, Li demonstrated sharp tactical decision-making alongside formidable attacking and defensive capabilities, while the Lynk & Co 03+ TCR proved its high-level track competitiveness throughout intense, continuous battles.
Teammate Martin Foo experienced a turbulent race weekend of his own. Despite on-track contact, he kept his composure to take 3rd place in the Rookie Cup during Race 1, sharing the podium with fellow Lynk & Co driver Daniel Wu and adding another trophy to Teamwork Motorsport’s tally.
Race 1: Steady Progress Yields Double Podium
During qualifying, Li Guanghua secured 3rd overall in his Lynk & Co 03+ TCR, setting up an advantageous grid position to challenge for a podium in Race 1.
In Saturday’s Race 1, Li launched cleanly and maintained a steady pace. However, his rhythm was interrupted on Lap 2 by a Safety Car deployment, which lasted until Lap 6 to clear track debris. Once the race restarted, Li immediately refocused, consistently dropping his lap times to apply pressure on the cars ahead. On Lap 9, he capitalized on a key opportunity to make a decisive overtake for 2nd overall, holding the position to the checkered flag to secure the runner-up spot.
In a dynamic, incident-packed field, Li stayed composed, managing transitions between attack and defense to turn his strong starting spot into a podium finish. Teammate Martin Foo fought through intense battles to finish smoothly, securing 3rd place in the Rookie Cup.
Race 2: Building Last-Lap Momentum for the Podium
Following Saturday’s steady drive, Li engaged in a highly variable tactical battle in Sunday’s Race 2. Due to the reverse-grid rule, he started from 7th. During the early and middle stages, he chose to maintain a steady rhythm, conserving his momentum while defending, waiting for the right moment to strike.
The turning point came on Lap 11. Li began pushing, advancing two positions into the top five. After a lap of close battling, he took advantage of a scuffle ahead to move up to 4th. Although a rival briefly overtook him from behind, Li capitalized on a mistake to immediately reclaim 4th place. Meanwhile, Lynk & Co teammate Sunny Wong slotted in behind, providing crucial backup for Li’s podium charge.
On the final lap, Li launched his final assault for the podium, executing a decisive overtake at Turn 7 to climb to 3rd overall, turning a fight from 7th on the grid into another podium result. Martin Foo suffered a puncture from an early collision but rejoined the race after a pit stop to finish 7th in the Rookie Cup.
Reflecting on the track battles, Li remarked: “I focused on defending early in the race. Once the cars ahead made mistakes, I seized the opportunity, built a safe margin, and pushed forward. Thanks to the Lynk & Co race car’s high-speed corner stability, I could continuously pressure opponents at Turn 1 and Turn 7 before capitalizing on the opening to make the pass.”
From a runner-up finish to a last-lap charge onto the podium, Li showcased adaptable driving strategies and execution across both races. The Lynk & Co 03+ TCR delivered consistent on-track performance throughout the high-intensity wheel-to-wheel action, underpinning the driver’s tactical choices and final breakthroughs..
Notably, Li Guanghua and Martin Foo are not only teammates but also graduates of the Teamwork Racing Academy. Their progression from the academy’s training to the championship podium reflects the program’s ongoing success in driver development.
