Teamwork win two races at Shanghai to take up the title fight
Wins for Alex Hui and Sunny Wong mean title is now wide open
Teamwork Motorsport had a highly successful weekend at the penultimate round of the 2018 TCR China Touring Car Championship at the Shanghai International Circuit, with Alex Hui taking victory in the second sprint race, and with the team also taking their fourth endurance race win from a possible four, showing their perfect "teamwork".
The results mean the team are now just two points behind the MacPro Racing Honda pair of Henry Ho and Eurico de Jesus, going to next month's season finale.
In the first race, Sunny Wong had qualified in second position, but an accident at the start meant an unfortunate DNF for the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR driver.
In Race 2, Alex Hui started from the class pole position and never looked back, crossing the line ahead of title rival Eurico de Jesus, who was later disqualified after it was discovered his Honda Civic TCR was running at the wrong ride height.
In the endurance race, Sunny Wong and Alex Hui started from pole, and put on their usual performance in the one-hour race, with Wong leading during the early phase before handing the car over to Hui, who drove the car to victory.
With Ho and de Jesus finishing third, several minutes down after a late-race fuel issue, Wong and Hui are now right back in championship contention, just two points behind going into next month's season finale.
Alex Hui said:
“I'm very glad to claim our first sprint race win this year. We had a few chances before but we weren't able to convert them. This week our pace has been strong since practice, therefore I just wanted to make sure I could get off the line well and make it safe at Turn 1.
"So far we have done very well in all the TCR China one-hour races. Our engineering team set-up the car very well for long runs. Also both me and Sunny are very similar in terms of speed and driving style so we can put in quick laps one after one in the same car.”
Sunny Wong added:
“I knew from practice that our car is very competitive this week. After Alex’s Race 2 victory I just kept telling myself to make no mistake in Race 3. Many other things have to be taken in consideration in a race. It’s encouraging to win all four long races, hats off to the team!”
