Hong Kong driver Cherry Cheung had a strong debut in her first taste of TCR-level competition at the season finale of the TCR Malaysia Touring Car Championship at the Sepang Circuit, securing two ninth-place finishes in the team's Volkswagen Motorsport Golf GTI TCR.

Cheung made progress in every session, mistake-free, producing her best lap in qualifying to secure 12th on the grid and on-pace with her other competitors, who had much more experience under their belts.

Two perfect starts in both races saw her make up several positions each time, and through strong and consistent races, she notched up two P9s in the weekend's two races, scoring points on her international debut, after only having started racing last year in the Chinese Racing Cup.

Cherry Cheung said:

“This weekend has been an unforgettable experience for me, to be able to compete with so many great drivers in the Asia region.

"This was by far the toughest race, but also the cleanest one I have done. There are many people I want to thank, especially my coach Samuel Hsieh, who repeatedly and patiently showed me what I need to do.

"Teamwork also flawlessly prepared the Volkswagen Golf GTI TCR for me, so the only thing I had to focus on was my driving. I couldn't imagine if I had to work for long hours under this Malaysian heat, so a bit hats off to the team this weekend.

"Knowing I was driving the exact same car Rob Huff raced here a few weeks' ago, it’s like a dream of a teenage girl come true, but of course I couldn’t perform the magic quite like Rob.

"In conclusion, this was a very satisfying weekend. There are still many areas that I need to improve, but I really want to race again with this team."
