Teamwork Suncity Group Trio Claim Two Trophies at MTCS Opening Weekend
In the past weekend, Teamwork Suncity Trio, Paul Poon and Samson Fung each claimed a 2nd in both rounds, while Alex Fung finished in 4th and 5th. Each driver earned valuable qualification points for November’s Macau GP.
This year due to a big technical regulation change in the 1.6T category, Teamwork has yet to find the ultimate upgrades and setups for RCZ. Drivers and engineers are fully utilising every session at the MTCS to try all possibilities. Race cars have been improved from the very first test session to the final race.
Not much pressure was felt by Paul Poon just before Sunday’s final race. Soon after race started, Poon overtook a few rivals and entered a few laps intense battle with number 23 Mini Cooper for 2nd position, and eventually passed his rival in the second half of the race and crossed the finish line in 2nd. After the race Poon said he starts to blend in with this new car setup and believes he can pick up more pace in the next outing. Alex Fung, who crossed the finish line at 4th said, “Under the new regulations we can see our competitors all become much faster and battles are now more intense. I understand the MTCS is a qualification race series for the Macau GP, we still want to give all we have and see how much we are off in comparison, then come up with the best solutions. It has been an acceptable weekend for myself claiming a 5th and a 4th, but more importantly is the data collection.”
The Suncity RCZ piloted by Paul Poon, Samson Fung, and Alex Fung combined two successful Macau GP in 2015 and 2016, which Paul Poon won twice in a row and becomes a 6-time winner, Samson Fung on 2nd in 2015, and Alex Fung on 3rd in his 2016 debut. Once again, the team is setting its sight on repeating the success in the 2017 Macau GP 1.6T class.
Next round of MTCS will be held on 24-25 June at Zhuhai. Another main program that Teamwork run is TCR China, which has been delayed to kick-off on 5-6 August at the Shanghai International Circuit. Teamwork will enter three VW Golf TCR to the competiton.
